Scanning a book
On a child's home screen, choose "Add a book", then "Scan". Point the camera at the barcode on the back cover and hold still for a moment. The app looks the ISBN up in public book catalogues and shows the title, author and cover for the child to confirm.
The camera works entirely on the device. No picture is stored or sent anywhere; only the confirmed ISBN leaves the phone. If a barcode will not scan (older books, library stickers, damaged covers), search by title instead.
Adding a book by title
Choose "Add a book", then type the title or the author into the search field and pick the right edition from the results. If the book is not in any catalogue, for example a school reader or a handmade book, choose "Type it in" and enter the title yourself. A typed-in book grows a tree just like any other.
What "resting" means
When a child taps "Take a break" on a book, its tree keeps whatever it has grown into and shows a small moon badge. That is a resting tree. Nothing shrinks, wilts or disappears, and there is no time limit. Tapping "Keep reading" wakes the tree up again, and finishing the book grows it as usual.
Resting is a normal part of reading, not a failure. The app never nags a child about a resting book.
Groups and invite codes
A reading group is a small, private circle of families who read toward one shared goal. A grown-up creates the group from the Grown-ups area and receives an invite code to pass on to families they know. Another grown-up joins by entering that code; there is no directory, search or public list of groups.
Inside a group, other families see each child's display name and avatar and the group's combined progress. They never see a child's individual reading history, and nobody is ranked.
Verifying your email
Creating or joining a group needs a confirmed email address, so we know the grown-up in charge can be reached. Open the Grown-ups area, choose "Verify email", and we will send a link that works once and expires after 24 hours. Tap it on any device to confirm. If it has expired, ask for a new one; if it never arrives, check the spam folder and that the address in the app is spelled correctly.
Deleting the family, and exporting first
Both live in the Grown-ups area behind the password gate. "Export" downloads everything we hold about your household as a single JSON file: children, books, reading events, forests and group memberships. "Delete family" removes the account, every child profile, all books and reading events, forests and group memberships straight away. Deletion is permanent, so export first if you want to keep a copy.
Report a problem
If something looks wrong, a scan keeps failing, a link will not open, or a tree does not grow when it should, email [email protected]. Tell us which device and app version you are using and what you expected to happen; a screenshot helps. Please do not include a child's full name or any password. We read every message and reply from the same address.
